How SAS became a MP² user...

It all began when Industrial Optimizers were assigned as an external consultant, to perform an analysis of fleet management within SAS.
The analysis was carried out using a software tool called MP² . In time SAS realized that analyses could be substantially simplified using MP²

The analysis was carried out using a software tool called MP² . In time SAS realized that analyses could be substantially simplified using MP². A formal MP² project was founded when SAS was reorganized into smaller units. In February 2008 the system was certified and the project was rolled out in the organization. At one point MP² had to handle six subsidiaries within the SAS group and the complex route hierarchy that comes with it. Today there are more than 57 users in the SAS group.

Kristofer Olsson has 30 years of experience from the airline business. He works as a Senior Network Analyst with the MP² system at SAS. Kristofer has been a part of the MP² project since the start and has deep knowledge about the system.

The effort is so small...

In an instant you will get answers to where you have your costs. In addition you will get a good overview and an overall picture.”

The SAS group transported 25.2 million passengers to 127 destinations in 2010. The Group´s home market is the Nordic Region.

Statoil Air Transport Services (ATS) contract includes Industrial Optimizers’ products –
Core module and Connection Maximizer module. The project starts during spring 2011.

New release - Crew Pairing Optimizer

Autumn has arrived and also a new release of Industrial Optimizers Crew Pairing Optimizer.
Our development team has worked hard to achieve several improvements.

Work schedules in the airlines industry must cover not only a shift or a day, as workers in other industries might. Airlines work schedules consist of assignments called "crew pairings" or simply "pairings", which is a sequence of flights that starts and then ends at the same domicile. Parings are usually created by a pairing optimizer software.

News: Customer specific schedule items have been added. The schedule view may be grouped by items like route groups, cost areas, etc. The histogram charts are updated during the optimization process to show crew utilisation by base after each time window. New functions for displaying pairings by user selected criteria, e.g. by destination, have been added.

The MP² version 6 has been released

The user interface has been modified to give a clearer view of the functionality in the system. Market model, network analysis, scheduling, maintenance and crew have their own tab which makes
it easier to switch between the different functions.

Enhancements include:

Network analysis
New options in itinerary search to include or exclude connections by user selected criteria such as service type, operating airline or carrier, etc. All itineraries are drawn in the globe map in the user selected view; spherical or Mercator. Timetable and connection reports are created directly in MS Excel format.

Scheduling and maintenance
New frequency based reports display items by period and days of operation. The connection report shows arrivals and departures based on minimum connection times and period of operation.

Crew
Customer specific schedule items have been added. The schedule view may be grouped by items like route groups, cost areas, etc. The histogram charts are updated during the optimization process to show crew utilisation by base after each time window. Market model

Under the Industrial Optimizers and SITA partnership Industrial Optimizers´ products are integrated with SITA’s comprehensive solutions for planning, ops control and airline management.

SITA and Cyprus Airways have signed a contract which includes Industrial Optimizers products Fleet Plan Max and Pairing Max. Cyprus Airways is the national carrier of Cyprus and was founded in September 24, 1947. Cyprus Airways operates from the airport situated in Larnaca.

Industrial Optimizer’s partner SITA has signed a new contract with TAROM, Romanian Air Transport. The contract includes Industrial Optimizers’ products together with SITA’s Fleetwatch suite. The project starts during spring 2009.

For several years Industrial Optimizers has through a sublicense operation, used graphic schedule components from the Swedish company Android AB. For better customer solutions, both technical and commercial, Industrial Optimizers has now acquired the intellectual property rights to these components. Android AB will continue developing and upgrading the components.

The Innotrans fair 23. -26 September in Berlin is over for this time and we would like to say thank you to all our visitors,customers, partners and resellers that came to visit our stand. A total of 86,519 trade visitors from over 100 countries attended the four-day trade fair for transport technology. This is some 30 per cent more than at the event two years ago.

SJ, the Swedish national railway, have signed for the train version of MP².
The application, that bridges the financial aspects and planning processes, is used by the strategic planning department for creation and evaluation of new and tentative schedules.
